The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Settle in with your significant other and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it might appear like typical physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when the couple move from the urban environment to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, of course, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a strange force starts to affect the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing elements of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the kind of problems that come with any relationship over a long period. At their core, they still love one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your significant other and state, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
