The January transfer market is always a period of feverish rumour and potential major transfers. A number of high-profile players find themselves connected to transfers away from their present clubs. We examine some of the key names who are poised to be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player in contention, reports suggest an important transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a short period in early January. Recent developments suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other targets, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Liverpool falling through. As his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the club's final opportunity to secure a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. However, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh winger has found first-team minutes limited at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the London outfit would be open to a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

This Portuguese playmaker could be set for a comeback to the English top flight following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to take a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barça following the manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January exit seems increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The proven English centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. However, securing a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged huge salary make any move difficult. The Turin club are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a race to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a deal priced at approximately £22 million.
